You've seen thousands of pigeons
Never a baby
Why do we never see baby pigeons?
The pigeon descends from a cliff bird
In the city, your ledges, the underside of bridges… that's its cliff
It nests where you never go
And its chicks don't leave fast
Fed on pigeon milk… yes, that's real
They stay in the nest nearly a month
Far longer than a sparrow
So by the time they leave, they're already adult-sized
You've seen hundreds of them…
You took them for grown-ups
You cross paths with baby pigeons every week
They just already look grown up
