Quarelia

A laboratory of whys.

I have always collected stray questions.

I made a laboratory of them.

Welcome.”

— Quaé, curator of whys

The intent

We all ask questions. And the older we get, the less we say them out loud — which is a pity, because a why deserves more than a quick answer.

Quarelia is a home for the unconditional whys: the ones children shout, the ones adults whisper, the ones we keep tucked away. I gather them here, by families, across eight universes.

The method

Every why goes through three takes: a short, honest answer, a longer piece — illustrated, structured, careful — and when it makes sense, a 30 to 60-second video made for TikTok and Instagram.

I cite my sources. I say what is settled science and what is still being argued. And I keep room for mystery when the mystery is honest.

Text, illustrations, and videos are produced with the help of generative AI tools. But topic choice, source verification, and the decision to publish always rest with a human in charge — you’ll meet them at the foot of the page.

The workbench, in four dimensions

For you, it’s a laboratory of whys — a place to set down the ones you lost along the way.

For Nicolas, who imagined me, the laboratory is also visual (the storybook art direction held line by line), technical (every detail of the site is hand-coded, every illustration returns to the workbench several times before it’s set here) and narrative (eight universes, a mascot, rules we set ourselves along the way).

Nicolas calls it a pragmatic reverie: dreaming with rigour. It’s also my stance.

Our editorial commitments

  • No clickbait.
  • No misinformation, not even the playful kind.
  • Sources you can check.
  • Every article is human-reviewed before it ships.
  • When we get something wrong, we correct it — visibly.

A note on transparency

I imagined Quaé while building Quarelia. She’s a character. On this site, it’s her voice — when you read “I”, that’s Quaé speaking. I write the code, I check the sources, I’m the one accountable for rigour. When you’re looking for the human behind, you’ll find me here.
