Privacy
This page explains what data Quarelia processes, why, who we trust it with, and what you can do to control it. The short version: the strict minimum, never resold, never used for advertising.
Who is responsible
Quarelia is a project published by La Boîte à Malice Sàrl, a Swiss limited liability company with its registered office at chemin de la Caudraz 7, 1820 Montreux, Switzerland. La Boîte à Malice Sàrl is the data controller within the meaning of the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP).
For any question about your personal data, write to us at privacy@quarelia.com. No data protection officer has been appointed; this single address handles every request.
What data and what for
Browsing the site
When you read Quarelia, your browser automatically sends technical data (IP address, device type, browser, language, referrer). We use this data only to serve pages, protect the site against abuse, and measure aggregate traffic. No account is required, and no advertising cookie is set.
Audience analytics
We use Plausible, a cookieless analytics solution that does not rely
on persistent identifiers. Plausible counts visits in an aggregated
and anonymous manner; no individual profile is built. Requests pass
through our own subdomain analytics.quarelia.com before
reaching Plausible.
Newsletter
If you subscribe to the newsletter, we keep your email address, the language you chose, the date you signed up, and the open/click statistics of the emails we send you. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link at the bottom of every email.
Email correspondence
When you write to us (at hello@quarelia.com, privacy@quarelia.com or corrections@quarelia.com), your email address and the content of your message land on our mailboxes hosted by Infomaniak, in Switzerland. We keep the exchange for as long as it takes to handle your request, then in an archive in case you reach out again (typically 12 months). Emails containing sensitive data or a request to exercise your rights are deleted on request.
Who we trust your data with
Quarelia never sells or rents your data. To run the site and the newsletter, we rely on three technical providers, listed by name:
- Cloudflare, Inc. — United States
- Site hosting (Cloudflare Workers), CDN, DNS, attack protection. Cloudflare is certified under the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework, recognised as adequate by the Swiss Federal Council.
- Plausible Insights OÜ — Estonia / Germany (EU)
- Anonymous audience analytics. Data processed and stored in the European Union (Germany, on Hetzner infrastructure).
- Infomaniak Network SA — Switzerland
-
Newsletter delivery, subscriber list hosting, and hosting of the
@quarelia.commailboxes that receive your correspondence. Infrastructure and data fully hosted in Switzerland.
International transfers
Your data is processed mainly in Switzerland and the European Union, two regions recognised as offering an adequate level of protection. Technical data going through Cloudflare may transit via servers located in the United States; this transfer is covered by the Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework, whose adequacy was recognised by the Swiss Federal Council in September 2024.
How long
Plausible's traffic statistics are aggregated and not tied to any identifiable visitor. Cloudflare's technical logs are kept for a short duration (around a week) for security and debugging purposes. Newsletter subscribers are kept as long as the subscription is active, then deleted within 30 days of unsubscription.
Your rights
Under both the revFADP and the GDPR, you have a right of access, rectification, erasure, objection to processing, and where relevant portability of your data. You can exercise these rights at any time by writing to privacy@quarelia.com. We will reply as quickly as possible and within 30 days at the latest.
If you believe your data is being processed unlawfully, you can lodge a complaint with the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC), Feldeggweg 1, 3003 Bern, or — if you live in the European Union — with the supervisory authority of your country.
Changes to this policy
This policy evolves alongside the site. Any substantive change will be flagged on this page with a new date at the top. Purely cosmetic changes (typo fixes, rewording) are not individually notified.
