In broad daylight, the bird goes quiet

It isn't fear

It answers to light, not to the clock

An internal clock tunes its song to the brightness

The Sun vanishes, the eye believes night has fallen

Silence

Then the light comes back, and they all start again together: a dawn chorus in the middle of the afternoon

But it takes almost everything: the song only cuts out past ninety-nine percent of the Sun hidden

The hour never changed

Their clock just blinked
